General English

Our General English Course offers a high level of English teaching with a very comprehensive programme of cultural, sports and evening activities.

The standard programme for junior students is 15 hours English classes per week. Classes are available at all levels from Elementary (A1) to Advanced (C1) and there is a maximum of 15 students per class.

Two teachers, covering different prearranged areas of the syllabus, work alternately with each class. This provides variety for the students and allows them to benefit from the different personalities and teaching styles.

All our teaching staff are university graduates and are qualified to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL).

In addition to classes the General English Course includes sports and cultural activities. These take place in the afternoons and evenings and are an important part of the course and have a role in improving language skills.

In-college organised sports / activities take place three afternoons per week. These sports include football, rugby, basketball, tennis, rounders, volleyball, table tennis and many more. Sports and games tournaments are also held from time to time. Arts and crafts, movies, games, dance classes, drama and yoga will also be available on selected dates.

Students participate in two half day cultural excursions to local galleries, museums and other visitor attractions. Students travel to the locations with their group leader(s) and one or more D4E activity leader. All admission fees are included.

One full day excursion per week, usually on Saturdays, is also included. Students travel to places of interest, normally outside Dublin, by private bus.

Evening activities are held three days per week. Activities can include discos, Irish nights, karaoke, quiz night, sports & games competitions, movie nights and many more. Evening activities take place from 20:00 to 22:00.

The activities programme provides students with an opportunity to absorb some of Ireland’s rich heritage in a fun and relaxed way while also allowing students from different nationalities the opportunity to improve their English and get to know each other outside the classroom. Some of the friendships you make here at D4E will last a lifetime.
