English & Beauty Therapy

The “English and Beauty Therapy Course” is designed for students interested in attending D4E but who are looking for something different from the sports elements in the other programmes.

Students attend regular English classes in the morning and participate in “An Introduction to Beauty Therapy” course in the afternoons at the Bronwyn Conroy Beauty School. The school was established in 1972 and is regarded as one of the foremost schools for beautician training in Ireland. The school is located in Temple Hall in Blackrock. After English classes students have a short lunch and must travel to the beauty school. Classes are held from 14.30 to 17.30, Monday to Thursday.

Students undergo 15 hours English classes per week. Classes are available at all levels from Elementary (A1) to Advanced (C1) and there is a maximum of 15 students per class.

Two teachers, covering different prearranged areas of the syllabus, work alternately with each class. This provides variety for the students and allows them to benefit from the different personalities and teaching styles.

All our teaching staff are university graduates and are qualified to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL).

The beauty course lasts two weeks and can only be started on certain dates. Students must be at least 15 years old to attend this course. Topics covered include cleansing & toning, exfoliation, facial massage, face masks, eyebrow trimming, skin analysis & basic skin types and manicures. It is conducted entirely in English.

On the fifth day students take part in a cultural excursion  in the afternoon to local galleries, museums and other visitor attractions. Students travel to the locations with their group leader(s) and one or more D4E activity leader. All admission fees are included.

One full day excursion per week, usually on Saturdays, is also included. Students travel to places of interest, normally outside Dublin, by private bus.

Evening activities are held three days per week. Activities can include discos, Irish nights, karaoke, quiz night, sports & games competitions, movie nights and many more. Evening activities take place from 20:00 to 22:00.

The activities programme provides students with an opportunity to absorb some of Ireland’s rich heritage in a fun and relaxed way while also allowing students from different nationalities the opportunity to improve their English and get to know each other outside the classroom. Some of the friendships you make here at D4E will last a lifetime.
