English & Basketball
Following the success of the “English & Rugby Camp” and as a result of specifically expressed interest in Basketball, D4E added a specialised basketball training camp to its regular summer school activities in 2011. This was a huge success with all the students happy with both classes and training and the D4E team winning several matches.
Students attend regular English classes in the morning and participate in a predetermined basketball training programme in the afternoons, from 14.30 to 16.30.
Students undergo 15 hours English classes per week. Classes are available at all levels from Elementary (A1) to Advanced (C1) and there is a maximum of 15 students per class.
Two teachers, covering different prearranged areas of the syllabus, work alternately with each class. This provides variety for the students and allows them to benefit from the different personalities and teaching styles.
All our teaching staff are university graduates and are qualified to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL).
The basketball training programme is conducted entirely in English. Training is on three days a week, with a basketball match against an Irish team on the fourth.
The basketball training programme is managed by Jay Fazande, a former American basketball player who has been coaching at all levels for several years.
On the fifth day students take part in a cultural excursion in the afternoon to local galleries, museums and other visitor attractions. Students travel to the locations using public transport with their group leader(s) and one or more D4E activity leaders. All admission fees are included.
One full day excursion per week, usually on Saturdays, is also included. Students travel to places of interest, normally outside Dublin, by private bus.
Evening activities are held three days per week. Activities can include discos, Irish nights, karaoke, quiz nights, match nights, sports & games competitions and movie nights. Evening activities take place from 20:00 to 22:00.
The activities programme provides students with an opportunity to absorb some of Ireland’s rich heritage in a fun and relaxed way while also allowing students from different nationalities the opportunity to improve their English and get to know each other outside the classroom. Some of the friendships you make here at D4E will last a lifetime.
